Spare me your indignation
After a decade of convenient and choreographed silence, a sudden plea for closure rings hollow.
Late last night, a message landed in my email inbox. Someone shared a LinkedIn post from the former CEO of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors, Howard Button. I wouldn’t normally see these posts because I blocked most of the senior NFDC officers years ago.
But his post read: “Didcot – as we approach the ten year anniversary of the disaster, I must ask when will we see closure?”
That question is timely, prescient. Maybe even justified. In just 11 days, it will be the 10th anniversary of the most deadly UK demolition disaster in living memory.
So allow me to respond to that question with one or two of my own.
