The time-travelling demolition man Part 1
Imagine you could travel back in time exactly 50 years, grab a demolition worker from 1974, and whisk them back to the present day. What would they think of demolition today?
Let’s say that on your current site you have discovered a portal to the past. You reach back precisely half a century, pick up an experienced demolition worker from back in the day, and transport them back to your site.
Well, first of all, they would be ejected immediately. Donkey jackets and regular trousers won’t cut it in the current day and age; so our 1970s demolition worker – let’s call him Bob - is whisked off to get kitted out with his PPE.
He’s delighted with his hard hat, high vis’ jacket and safety boots. He’s not keen on the safety glasses, he can’t see the point of the safety gloves, and he has already misplaced his ear protection. But he’s ready to work.
“Ah, not so fast Bob,” you tell him. “I realise that you have spent more than 20 years on sites way more dangerous than this one. But before you can go any further, you need a competence card; and to get a competence card, you need to do a training course.”
