Mark when will you publish something positive about the demolition industry? It's beginning to look like you have an agenda

I absolutely DO have an agenda. That agenda is holding up a mirror to an industry that could and should be better.

You run the risk of sounding like a broken record

That is true. But who else is talking about this stuff? Every time the industry gets together, it's a mutual back-slapping exercise...phony awards, phony medals. Seriously, when was the last time the industry actually made a significant, meaningful and positive change?

Do you think that continually running the industry down (don't forget there are many demolition contractors who are not in the NFDC) will have any impact at all? Unless your continued criticism contains positive solutions to your allegations that have a realistic chance of working I struggle to see the point.

All good points but, ultimately, I am a journalist; I am not here to provide solutions. That is for folks far closer to the cutting edge of the industry. That being said, I have proposed plenty of changes: A global database of near-misses, accidents and fatalities as a learning opportunity; an overhaul of the training regime to produce actual competence rather than proof of classroom attendance; chagnes to working practices to address many of the fears and concerns of workers that ultimately lead to mental health issues; a site audit scheme that is not forewarned etc. As for your comment about non-NFDC members, I am well aware - They are among my most vocal supporters.

And what do you put your lack of success down to? Does the industry and its leaders want to see poor health and fatalities?

I started working in the demolition industry in the late 60's. Believe me the demolition industry today looks nothing like it did then. Huge strides have been made in all areas of demolition with the Industry working closely with the HSE.

Whilst I note the comments you make about suggestions, for them to have any meaning they have to work. You didn't include your plans, methods or costings for them. Do you have any?

Whilst appreciate that you are a journalist and are entitled to your opinions. You must also appreciate the realties. If your suggestions were so groundbreaking why is government and the HSE not pursuing the same lines?
